Lemon Ginger Tea

Winter is arriving late in Alabama this year and with it a myriad of lovely illnesses. People everywhere are hacking and sneezing and touching things with their germy hands. Yum! That’s when I know it’s time for this lemon ginger tea. It has tons of ingredients that help boost immune health, but also ease the strain of illness on the body. This tea contains:

  • Lemon to help reduce congestion if you are already sick, and to provide tons of vitamin C.
  • Fresh ginger, which is a miracle at settling the stomach but also works as an anti-inflammatory AND can help your body fight infections like the cold and RSV.
  • Honey! (A no brainer for cough and throat pain.)

Easy ingredients, no caffeine, and quick prep: this lemon ginger tea is the perfect way to start your day in the wintertime! In addition, kids can benefit particularly from drinking this tea during cold, flu, and RSV season. If your babe doesn’t do a great job of hydrating on the daily, this is a good way to encourage more water intake with all of the added benefits I discussed above.

Ways to include kids:

  • Exploring all of these ingredients is a great way to include young toddlers in the kitchen. Ginger, lemon, and honey all have very different textures and flavors to investigate.
  • Older toddlers can help prep by slicing lemon with safety knives. (I recommend cutting the lemon in half first so there is a flat and stable side.)
  • Peeling ginger is tough, but an advanced helper can do it!
  • Beyond this, placing all the ingredients in the French press (with clean hands, of course!) and pushing the press down when it has steeped are fun activities for kids of any age!

Be advised: It should be an adult job to handle the boiling water and you should keep honey away from babies under 12 months.
